Summer Trips - 2010

Smokies

PACKING LIST

Smokies, TN - Smokies Trip June 21-26.  Total cost is $300/youth. There will be many fundraiser opportunities for each youth/family to reduce their cost and benefit the youth program. Scholarships are also available. There will be a parent meeting before the trip to go over all the specifics but here are the basics:

Goals of trip: To experience God in the woods. To have a ton of fun in the woods and on the rivers, experience new things, claim adventure, be open to what God has to say to us. Middle school kids are valuable to God today. Message to youth: Come on this trip with a good attitude. We'll need a lot of help to make this a great trip. If someone asks for help, please always say yes and help out! This is designed for 6th-8th graders and high schoolers can go as leaders. Talk to me about this!

We'll camp at Elkmont in Great Smoky National Park. There is a bathroom building with running water a short walk from our campsite. We'll sleep in tents. Every night we'll have campfire time. We're taking all our food and using campstoves to cook. All youth will assist in cooking and cleanup at some point. We'll learn some basic camp skills under supervision. Daily activities include hiking, tubing and whitewater rafting up to class 4 rapids under professional supervision. We will do everything as a group. While the trip is meant to be relaxed and enjoyable we will have a schedule every day, including morning quiet time for reflection, Bible reading, journaling, etc, after breakfast and before our daily excursions. Evening campfire times bring our day to a close.
SAFETY: We have experienced campers who know the Smokies well and we're returning to sites we've explored before. Our leaders participate in first aid safety training. We travel with well-stocked first aid kits. Park rangers update us on safety tips when we arrive at the national park.

Please contact Jesse anytime with questions concerns ideas food etc.
